Profhilo

A bioremodelling treatment rather than a filler. Pure, stabilised hyaluronic acid placed just beneath the skin to draw in moisture and gently stimulate collagen and elastin. The result, when it suits you, is skin that looks better hydrated and a little firmer, not a changed face.

What it is

Hydration from within, not volume on top

Profhilo uses one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available in an injectable, blended without chemical cross linking. Rather than adding structure to a single area the way a dermal filler does, it spreads through the tissue and acts as a hydrating scaffold that prompts the skin to produce more of its own collagen and elastin over the following weeks. It is most often used across the lower face, neck and hands, where crepiness and a loss of bounce tend to show first.

Treatment is quick. A practitioner places a small number of injections at set points on each side of the face, usually five per side, so the product can diffuse evenly. There is no sculpting and no attempt to change your proportions. If you want a sharper jawline or fuller lips, this is not the treatment for that, and a good clinician will tell you so.

Who it suits

It tends to suit people in their thirties and beyond who notice early laxity, dullness or fine crepey texture and want a refreshed look without obvious change. It pairs well with a considered skincare routine and is often chosen as a maintenance treatment rather than a one off. People who like the idea of subtle, gradual improvement are usually the happiest with it.

Who it is not for

It will not lift heavy sagging, fill deep folds or replace lost volume. It is not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over an active skin infection or breakout in the area, or for anyone with a known sensitivity to hyaluronic acid products. If your main concern is structural, fillers or other approaches are a more honest fit. A consultation should rule these things in or out before anything is booked.

Session cadence

Two to start, then maintenance

The standard protocol is two sessions spaced about four weeks apart. You may begin to notice an improvement in skin quality within a few weeks of the first session, with the fuller effect settling roughly eight weeks after the second. Most clinics then suggest a single maintenance session around every six months to hold the result, though the right interval varies from person to person.

Honest risks

As with any injectable, expect the possibility of redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising at the injection points. Small raised bumps where the product is placed are normal and usually settle within a day. Less common risks include infection, prolonged swelling or a vascular event, which is rare but serious. Choosing a qualified medical practitioner who can recognise and manage complications matters more than any saving on price.

Downtime

Downtime is generally minimal. Many people return to normal activities the same day, with any bumps and redness easing within a day or so and bruising, if it appears, fading over several days. Practitioners usually advise avoiding makeup over the points for the rest of the day, along with heat, vigorous exercise and alcohol for a short period afterward. Results vary, and nothing here is guaranteed.

Indicative price

What you might pay

In the United Kingdom a single session typically runs from about £250 to £450, with a starting course of two sessions often quoted between roughly £450 and £850. In the United States expect broadly higher figures, commonly in the region of $600 to $1,000 per session. These are indicative ranges only. Final pricing depends on the clinic, the city, the practitioner's experience and how many areas are treated. Confirm the full cost, including any maintenance, with the provider before booking.

Good to know

Profhilo improves skin quality. It does not lift, fill or reshape. If a clinic promises a dramatic change from this treatment alone, treat that as a reason to ask more questions, not fewer.
